Pet nutrition is not something that most animal owners think about. Most simply make sure they have a bag of food, without thinking about where the food was made and what was in it. Not all pet foods are equal. There are foods that are much better for your pet than others.

Too much salt causes your body to retain fluids, and this is very unhealthy. Salt tastes great, and it goes well with many things you eat. Salt in moderation is not bad, but too much salt leads to problems. Take care of your body, and start watching your salt intake.

Since it is not a good idea to have so much salt in your diet you should try to find other ways to put flavor into your food. Adding fresh herbs and seasoning blends that do not contain salt are the best ways to add flavor without having to worry about salt intake.

Many people do not realize the amount of difference it makes when you switch from drinking full fat milk to one of the types that doesn’t contain as much. This can help you save many grams of fat that you would otherwise consume and have added to your frame.

Keep your sodium intake to less than 2300 milligrams a day (preferably less than 1500 milligrams a day if possible) to maintain a nutritious diet. Too much sodium, usually the result of eating too many processed foods, can result in kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

If you are going to keep your body running in tip top shape, you need to make sure that you know the benefits of exercise, both physical and emotional. Exercise will make you happier and help your body run in the most efficient manner. Stay healthy and exercise regularly.

Consume less dairy. While some milk and dairy products can be healthy and full of protein, they should still be consumed in moderation. Many people are lactose intolerant; however it is often so mild that it does not cause major symptoms. The intolerance only becomes apparent when the dairy is removed and the person notices an improvement in overall health.

Don’t make drastic changes to your diet and what you eat. It can make you sick or make you stray from your goals. Make small changes slowly over time. Put a little less butter on your mash potatoes. Drink one less soda per day. You will see an improvement without making aggravating food changes.

When you work out and it’s hot outside, you tend to sweat more and are at risk of dehydration. This will show up in your urine when it is a dark yellow and has a strong stench to it. If you have drank more than enough, your urine will be a lighter color.

Once you learn about what your actual pet need for nutrition to stay his or her best, you will want to then implement this. It could mean making your own at home or switching to a better premade formula that is of higher quality. The truth is that if you cannot afford to feed your pet good food, you cannot afford your pet.
